Civil Suit Filed Against Former Durham Attorney

Posted May 4, 2007

— A civil suit was recently filed against former Durham County public defender Bob Brown.

According to court documents, three women -- Danielle Brown, Janice Ingram and Rachel Allen -- claim Brown groped them and made inappropriate comments toward them.

The women claim Brown tried to pressure them to have sex. When they rebuffed his advances, the women said their workload increased.

Brown was appointed in 1990 as Durham's first public defender. He resigned from his job in December 2005 after similar accusations were made.

An attorney for the women said they may seek to file criminal charges in the case. The women are also suing the public defender's office and the state.

Brown said he had no comment because he had not yet seen the lawsuit.

Durham sure has it's share of flaky lawyers. Put Nifong on him, that will get him convicted in the media at least.

It would not take me but 1 single incident and he would have known to leave me alone.

  • pappybigtuna May 4, 2007

if they weren't going to have sex, they would have more time to do more work. Idle hands are the devils workshop. Durham, what a 'cool' place to live and pay your tax dollars to

the article states he resigned from his job in 2005 after similar accusations was made. are the women claiming this the same women from the 2005 incident or are they new victims? hope that makes sense.

Not everyone cares about race. In this particular forum it was only one person. So any remark about race needs to be addressed to her. That is her focus. Not the majority in here.

RACE, RACE, RACE is ALL some of you seem to WANT to talk about. EVERYBODY doesn't use that as an excuse. And then the Al and Jesse thing. Some of you need to get a life before you die.

The caption said, "Civil Suit Filed Against FORMER Durham Attorney". Bob Brown is Black. The women who filed the charges include Black & White women. Bob Brown does not have a preference. I have a close friend, who by the way is Black since that seems to be so important, and she was approached by Bob Brown in an inappropriate manner. Bob Brown has issues and needs psychiatric help. He thought his job gave him the right to do the things he did.
