FORT BRAGG — A four-month search for a missing Fayetteville woman has turned into a murder investigation.

Tabitha Croom, 23, mysteriously disappeared back in October. On Tuesday, Fort Bragg officials confirmed that human remains found on a remote part of post the day after Christmas were Croom's.

Investigators are not saying how she was killed.

"She's just a free-loving, free-spirited person," said Nicole Baker, a friend of Croom. "She didn't have an enemy in the world that I know of. Everybody loved her."

Croom's remains were found by hikers just a few miles from the intersection of Reilly and Gruber roads.

Investigators are not saying if they have any suspects.
