Beginning Monday night, crews will be working from the Raleigh Beltline at Wade Avenue down to the US-1/64 intersection at Walnut Street in Cary.
For several weeks, lanes will be closed in both directions between 7 p.m. and 6 a.m. Monday through Thursday.
Currently, it is a rough ride down that stretch of the Beltline. From Wade Ave. to Walnut St., drivers bump along on the worn-out concrete.
"We are anticipating a yield of somewhere around a half to three-quarters of mile of one lane per night," said DOT Engineer Averette Moore.
During the next eight weeks,Department of Transportationworkers will route out the bumpy grooves and fill them with a sealant.
Once the sealant sets in over summer, workers will be back at work in the fall laying down a new surface.
"This product has the ability for water to penetrate and move laterally across the roadway, in turn, eliminating wheel spray, hydroplane situations, and producing a greater skid-resistance in the pavement. It's user-friendly," said Moore.
The work will last about eight weeks.
