— Pick up this month's issue of Reader's Digest, and you'll find a little boy from Cary on page 11.

You can't miss him. He's got a great big grin. And that smile is a winner, literally.

Jayce is still smiling two years after his mom, Nora, snapped what is now a famous photo.

Jayce smiled the best smile in America. Reader's Digest said so when it made him the winner of a contest.

There were 1,200 entries. Jayce had two teeth, that beaming, bright-eyed boy with the sandy hair.

“He's always full of character. His facial expressions are so unique,” his mother said Wednesday. “He talks and tells stories, but his face tells so many more stories.”

Nora Kelly had plenty of material to work with for the contest.

“He is very photogenic. I take pictures of him all the time,” she said, including the winning shot that everyone in America can see now.

Jayce and his mom did not win any money for placing first. The contest had no time limit. Jayce is 9 months old in the winning photograph. He's 3 years old now.

After reading posts on WRAL for several weeks, I understand why the world is the way it is. Our society is so self-centered and selfish that we cannot express joy for others in happy situations and can find no empathy for those that suffer tragedies. Whether you agree or disagree with a news story, expressing your point in an articulate manner is the best way to get your point across. Otherwise, you are wasting space and as someone posted recently, “letting your IQ show.”

I wonder...would you be so quick to spout your intolerant and unsympathetic responses if you were required to provide your true identity? It doesn’t require courage to hide behind anonymity.

Jayce is a beautiful baby and well-deserving of this award!

It's common here to have negative comments on every single story, but the comments on this story are just a sad reflection of society.

That is one happy child with a beautiful smile! He's adorable!! You can't help but smile when you see his smile. I'm appalled how anyone can even think to make a negative comment on this story or this kid. Its unbelievable to me how rude and blind ppl are to when something beautiful is staring them right in the face.
