Salvation Army Needs More Hands

Many supplies have been generously donated, but many are tied up at warehouses at Myrtle Beach, Wilmington and Greenville. More hands are needed to sort the items so they can be sent on to recovery centers.

Anyone who can spare an hour or two (or more) is asked to drop by one of the warehouses. The one in Myrtle Beach is at 3454 Highway 501 (the old Brendle's building), which is across from Waccamaw Pottery. The one in Wilmington is at 127 S. College Road (another former Brendle's), and in Greenville, the Salvation Army warehouse is at 329 Greenville Blvd.

Then, once the items are sorted, they are sent on to one of nine recovery centers in North Carolina.

Volunteers are needed to escort the flood victims through those centers, helping them choose what they need for themselves and their families. This adds a personal touch to the process and helps support the person who has just lost so much.

A Salvation Army spokesman said that in earlier days the phone lines had been tied up with calls, but that the number of volunteers has dropped since the initial crisis. So lines are open.

And the need is still very critical.
