Alcohol Law Enforcement agents arrested Brian L'Hommedieu late Friday night at a Rocky Mount Hotel.
Police say the suspect pulled up in a van with a sign saying "Southeastern Catastrophe Support Team," then charged a Topsail Beach police officer $3,000 to clean a carpet. Investigators say the job should have cost around $700.
"It always surprises me when people do such things as this, and take advantage of people in certain situations, and it's our job as ALE agents to ensure that this doesn't happen," says agent Ted Carlton.
L'Hommedieu is charged with a felony and could face up to 10 years in prison.
