Triangle Tech Conference Discusses Pitfalls, Opportunities For Local Economy

At a tech conference sponsored by the North Carolina Electronics and Information Technology Association, Triangle leaders see the slowdown as an opportunity to address potential problems. Traffic and other quality of life issues could also adversely affect future growth.

California's Silicon Valley has experienced the strains of traffic, increasing population, and more recently, power shortages. Now tech industry leaders there work to protect quality of life.

The Triangle has the opportunity to learn from the mistakes of Silicon Valley. Many believe the Triangle should solve local problems like traffic now, before they get out of control.

The forum also heard about new technologies and possibilities of a rebound in the tech sector. Because of the relatively low cost of doing business, the Triangle is in a better position than the high rent districts of California and Boston.

The forum also addressed issues of privacy, photonics, recruiting and investment capital.
