Police on Tuesday released a composite sketch of a man wanted in connection with a slaying at a north Raleigh apartment complex last week.

Tim Barnwell, 34, was shot and killed Friday afternoon outside his second-story apartment at the Windsor Falls Apartments on Sunbow Falls Lane.

Witnesses reported hearing three or four gunshots just after noon Friday, and police found Barnwell a short time later. He was pronounced dead at WakeMed.

The suspect is described as being in his 20s or 30s, between 5 feet 10 inches and 6 feet tall and 160 to 170 pounds. He appeared to be well groomed and was wearing a dark-colored baseball cap, a dark-colored shirt with the word “Security” in white letters on its front, a dark-colored jacket that was slightly longer than waist length and dark-colored cargo-style pants.

The suspect fled the scene in a small to medium-size burgundy car of unknown make.

Anyone with information in the case is asked to call the Raleigh Police Department’s Detective Division at 919-890-3555 or Crime Stoppers at 919-226-CRIME.
