Bulls Celebrate Win in Season Opener

Posted Updated

DURHAM — The Durham Bulls opened their season with a win at the DBAP Thursday.

The Bulls beat the Richmond Braves 1-0 at the Durham Bulls Athletic Park, the beginning of a seven-game home stretch.

Last year the team attracted more than 6,500 people to each home game. On opening night, as many as 9,000 fans packed the ballpark.

Gospel great Shirley Caesar, who has won 11 of the awards -- sang the national anthem. Durham Mayor Nick Tennyson declared April 5th "Bill Evers Day."

Evers is starting his fourth season as the Bulls manager. He boasts the most wins of any Triple-A manager over the past three seasons.

"It's something I can't really put into words, but down the road I feel really honored that this is being done and hopefully we can come through with a victory for them," says Evers.
