RALEIGH — The USDA has given North Carolina the all clear signal after test results came back on two more hogs thought to have foot-and-mouth disease.
Official results show two swine samples from Sampson County are not infected with foot-and-mouth disease.
The samples were taken Friday from hogs at a Sampson County livestock market. Earlier Friday, tissue samples from pigs at a Martin County packing plant were also tested for foot-and-mouth disease. Those results were also negative.
Blisters and lesions on the dead pigs raised the suspicions of agriculture investigators. The samples were flown to a New York federal lab for testing. The packing plant and livestock market were quarantined as a precaution. That quarantine has been lifted.
