<b>DURHAM</b> — On April 7, 1998, a stray bullet forever changed Tyquan Mikell's life. Over the last three years, he has struggled to overcome many hardships, and now he is an example of hope for children everywhere.

Three years ago, Mikell was caught in the crossfire of a drive-by shooting near Few Gardens. The bullet hit him in the back and severed his spine. He was left paralyzed from the waist down.

Mikell is now the North Carolina representative for theChildren's Miracle Network.

"He's faced a lot of obstacles since the shooting and he has come back," says Katie Butler ofDuke Children's Health Center. "He's bright and energetic. He's just a great 8-year-old kid."

Mikell will get to meet President Bush next Tuesday, and then he will join other Children's Miracle Network kids in Orlando for a trip to Walt Disney World.
