HARNETT COUNTY — A Harnett County courtroom heard the story Tuesday afternoon about the death of a 7-year-old.
Quincy Amerson is on trial for the murder of Sherita Rivera. He is accused of intentionally running her over three times with his car in August 1999.
A motive has yet to be revealed, but testimony shows the 7-year-old was likely sexually assaulted shortly before her death.
"We just want the truth and justice to be served," says Sgt. Jose Rivera, Sherita's father. "It's been a long time and it's hard to move on. We look forward to justice."
Shortly after Sherita's death, investigators found her mother, Patrice Rivera, dead in their home. An arrest in her murder has never been made.
