RALEIGH — Some Triangle outdoors enthusiasts are still talking about their participation in a grueling 350-mile race organized by "Survivor" producer Mark Burnett last summer.
The team that competed in Borneo had three members who work at Nortel in Research Triangle Park. Paul Jarmul, Denise Fry and Cammie Crampton-Sexton trained for nine months to compete.
In past years, participants had to qualify, but this year, a little lottery luck came into play for the locals.
"They opened it up to a lottery system," said Crampton-Sexton. "I think they're trying to pull more people into the sport and generate more interest."
