RALEIGH — Raleigh will host a future NHL draft at the Entertainment and Sports Arena. An NHL All-Star Game is also in the works for the Triangle.
NHL Commissioner Gary Bettman promised that the draft will come to Raleigh by 2005. He also said that within five years of theCarolina Hurricanesselling at least 12,000 season tickets, the NHL All-Star Game will also come to the ESA.
"This market, this team, this owner deserve an All-Star Game," Bettman said.
An NHL All-Star Game could have a $20 million economic impact on the area.
Hurricanes owner Pete Karmanos says his team's lame-duck days in Greensboro are over.
"Since we got here, things have really built," he said. "Hopefully, this will lock us into the community once and for all."
Team officials believe the Hurricanes may meet their ticket goal this year.
