Cary Apartment Fire Started On Deck After A Party

Posted Updated

CARY, N.C. — Fire officials said that a fire that destroyed several apartments in Cary Thursday morning started on a deck after a party.

The fire at the Westover Hills apartment complex happened Thursday morning around 3:30 a.m. and destroyed three of the 12 units in a building. Three of the units suffered heavy water damage.

Fire officials said the fire started on the deck of apartment 223, but the cause remains undetermined.

The occupant told officials that there had been a party that lasted until 1:30 a.m., and that people were smoking on the deck, but were using a plastic flower pot as an ashtray.

There was a brief flare-up of the fire later in the day, when a small section of boxing started smoldering. It was quickly extinguished by firefighters.

A firefighter was slightly injured in the fire and some people lost everything they owned.
