Soldier Accused Of Son's Death To Help With Funeral Costs

Posted Updated

FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. — A former Army staff sergeant who shook his son to death will pay $1,000 to reimburse the boy's grandmother for the child's funeral costs.

A judge also added a year to the probation Jessie Ullom is already serving for abusing his son.

Ullom took responsibility Thursday for shaking his son, Christian Norris, so violently that the child was blind and never walked or talked in the two years he survived afterward.

Lawyers on both sides decided Ullom would plead no contest to involuntary manslaughter and left the sentence to the judge.
