RALEIGH, N.C. — Raleigh Mayor Charles Meeker says recruiting minority firefighters to the department will be a top priority.
Last week, members of the black community complained about racial inequalities within the Raleigh Fire Department. They delivered a letter to city leaders demanding change.
On Thursday, Meeker responded with his own letter, saying this is an important issue that needs work. He said the city needs to make more progress on diversity for firefighter hiring.
