Cumberland County Commissioners Scrap Plan For New Animal Shelter

Posted March 19, 2001

— Despite overcrowding, Cumberland County will not receive a new animal shelter.

The county had hoped to hire an architect to build a new facility, but that plan was scrapped. County commissioners say there is not enough money in the budget.

The shelter picks up more than 1,000 stray dogs and cats every month, and eighty percent of them are put to sleep.
