RALEIGH — Two of North Carolina's most influential lawmakers are calling for a bill to protect your medical rights.

Governor Mike Easley and Senator John Edwards met with health care providers Monday at WakeMed in Raleigh. They say they want to give patients more power in choosing their doctors and their health care.

"Right now, HMOs are one of the few groups in America who can't be held accountable for what they do," Edwards says. "We're just trying to put accountability into the system and empower patients and doctors."

Easley and Edwards think the patient's bill of rights has enough support to pass on the state and federal level.
