SAMPSON COUNTY — A Sampson County community is in mourning after two students died and one student was injured in a weekend car accident.
Justin Gainey, 18, was leaving his school's senior prom early Sunday morning when he was killed in a car accident. Another student in the car, Adam Jackson, passed away Monday night. Matthew Naylor is listed in fair condition at UNC Hospitals.
Students at Midway High School have set up a prayer wall to remember the three students. Gainey, a star basketball and football player, had spent the last year recovering from a near fatal car accident.
"Seeing as he had come back from catastrophe and was making such a go of it, and now this devastating thing happens. It is just hard to deal with," says guidance counselor Danny Ralph.
