ANGIER — Two men are in custody after a robbery attempt at First Citizens Bank in Angier.
What the would-be robbers did not know was the police department was right next door. When police confronted them, they dropped the money on the floor. Shots were fired, but no one was hurt.
Police say the attempted heist was not the only caper the two suspects tried to pull off.
"We had a video tape of a robbery which occurred on Saturday. The pictures that we got from the video tape which we received today clearly identifies both individuals we have in custody," says Det. Anthony Poppler.
Police say the two men were traveling with a teenage girl, but she was not involved in the attempted robbery.
The suspects face numerous charges, including armed robbery and assault with a deadly weapon.
