RALEIGH — Work will begin soon on a long-anticipated renovation of Carter-Finley Stadium.
N.C. State Universityleaders broke ground Sunday on the expansion that will add more than 5,000 seats and a new football center near the south end zone.
The $80 million project should be finished before the 2003 football season.
"All through recruiting, that is what they sold everyone on. That's what they have been telling players for years, so just to see it finally happen is great," says football player Austin Herbert.
Chancellor Marye Anne Fox, coach Chuck Amato and former players put football jerseys in a time capsule. The capsule will be buried at the stadium, and dug up in 40 years.
