RALEIGH — A record crowd attended the 2001CIAA Tournament, but conference officials have not decided if the tournament will stay in Raleigh.
A near-capacity crowd of 19,000 fans filled theEntertainment and Sports Arenafor Saturday night's championship game.
The CIAA's three-year agreement with the arena runs out after the 2002 tournament. Conference officials say they are thrilled with the arena.
"The reason we're sold out is because of the ESA," says Leon Kerry, CIAA commissioner. "We have another level, 60 sky boxes, 13,000 lower level seats. You can't ask for much more."
CIAA officials brought in more fans this year by opening third-level seating. They will vote in July on whether to keep the tournament in Raleigh.
