RALEIGH — A dreary Saturday did not dampen the hoopla at the CIAA Tournament in Raleigh. Games went down to the wire, and the fans were geared up for the action.

The fun started early on Super Saturday, with former CIAA greats hitting the hardwood for a morning game. A cheerleading exhibition got the crowd pumped up later in the day.

In the women's championship game, Fayetteville State defeated N.C. Central 63-59, led by FSU's Tonya Bowman who scored 14 points. In the men's championship game, Johnson C. Smith defeated Fayetteville State 84-82 in overtime.

Fans were pumped up for Saturday night's championship games at the Raleigh Entertainment and Sports Arena. But CIAA students and graduates say winning is not their first priority.

"It's to show support for all the black colleges," said Johnston. C. Smith University student Teri Thompson. "To come together in unity and show good sportsmanship."
