Northeast Braces For Nor'easter; N.C. May Escape Worst

Posted Updated

RALEIGH — As the Northeast braces for a big winter storm, meteorologists believe North Carolina will miss the brunt of the bad weather.

Over the Triangle, up to 3 inches of rain may fall Sunday before changing over to snow by Monday morning. There is a chance of snow showers through Monday night.

In the mountains, there is a chance of accumulating snow Sunday night and Monday. Along the coast, rain is likely, followed by a chance of snow showers Monday and Tuesday.

Farther north, the system may develop into an especially powerful nor'easter, bringing more than a foot of snow to Philadelphia and New York City. As far south as Norfolk and Richmond, heavy rain and snow is possible.

The exact track and timing of the storm is still uncertain. Stay tuned to WRAL-TV5 and WRAL OnLine for the latest weather updates.
