Fayetteville State Students, Professors Give Free Tax Help

FSU accounting majors and professors are volunteering their time to help elderly and low-income taxpayers fill out their returns.

Senior Felicia Bailey is putting into practice what she has learned in the classroom. She says being a part of the program is more than just on-the-job training.

"I volunteer because I get the job of helping other people," she says. "There are some people who don't have the talent to do taxes. If I can help, I like to be instrumental in doing so."

People who cannot afford professional help say the free service is priceless.

"You can't beat it," says Victor Smith, who is using the service. "As far as paying out insurance, I didn't know I could use that as an exemption."

Thirty students will donate a total of 240 hours of service through April 15.
