Cary Town Council Wants Permission To Build Toll Roads

Posted Updated

CARY — The town of Cary wants to make you pay to go to Research Triangle Park.

Cary's Town Council is asking local lawmakers to help it win state approval for building toll roads. Mayor Glen Lang says the town wants to build a toll road into RTP.

One possibility for the road would be the Western Wake Expressway, which otherwise will not built for at least 10 years. The expressway could help traffic by diverting drivers who are willing to pay to use the road.

The state has not been keen on the idea of toll roads, but it did endorse a modest toll road plan for Mecklenburg County. From staff and wire reports
