RALEIGH — A CIAA grad whose life story was told on the big screen is in town for the tournament.
Herman Boone coached the first integrated football team at a Virginia high school. His story was told in the movie, "Remember the Titans," starring Denzel Washington.
Boone said he enjoyed working with Washington, who played the coach in the movie.
"He is a very serious person and a very, normal down-to-earth person when he is away from the cameras," he said. "Fortunately, I'm better looking than him."
Boone says he knew he was doing a tough job back in 1971, but he did not know he was also making history. He will be inducted into the CIAA hall of fame on Friday. He spends most of his time these days speaking to students across the country.
