Council Considers Future of Kenly Police Chief

KENLY — The Kenly Town Council has decided to give its police chief another month before deciding on his future with the force.
Two weeks ago, town leaders asked for Chief Tom Murphy's resignation. Monday night, they held a closed-door meeting with Murphy to discuss his future.
No one on the council will say why they are unhappy with Murphy. The police chief believes it is more of a personality conflict than a performance issue.
"I'm originally from New York, and I think sometimes I might come over differently than I intend to come over. I think that was the brunt of a lot of it," says Murphy.
Council members will re-evaluate the situation in 30 days.
