JOHNSTON COUNTY — A trash fire than burned out of control Monday has claimed the life of an elderly Johnston County man.
Sheriff's deputies say the 74-year-old man was burning trash in the Archer's Lodge community near Wendell when it got way from him.
He had been taken to the UNC Burn Center for treatment of his injuries.
