RALEIGH — The Raleigh City Council has unanimously chosen a new city manager.
Mayor Paul Coble announcedJ. Russell Allen, the current city manager of Rock Hill, S. C., to the post Monday morning.
The city council says Allen was chosen due to his strength in dealing with public utilities and finance in the rapidly growing town near Charlotte.
Coble says Allen's experience in Rock Hill will serve him well in his position as Raleigh's city manager.
Perhaps the most high profile task awaiting the new city manager is the hiring of a new Raleigh police chief.
Allen will begin work in 60 days. He replaces former city manager Dempsey Benton.
