FAYETTEVILLE — Investigators say they now know exactly how an abused 5-year-old boy died.
An autopsy has revealed that Jared Green died of water intoxication following a period of forced dehydration. He also contracted pneumonia by coughing stomach contents into his lungs.
Paramedicsfound Green dead Jan. 4in his Fayetteville home. Police say the boy was tied to a chair and his mouth was taped shut as punishment for soiling his pants.
The boy's father, Ft. Bragg soldier Michael Earl Green, and his girlfriend, Alexandra Goehl, are charged with first-degree murder and felony child abuse.
They are both in the Cumberland County Jail without bond.
