City Market is asking Raleigh to increase the parking limit to two hours so patrons have longer to spend eating, shopping, and spending time in the area.
City Market thought it had a good case with the city because it appeared Artspace was able to get the time increased in front of its building from one-hour to two-hour parking.
But WRAL's calls to the city's transportation department revealed that the two-hour parking signs in front of Artspace were put up in error, and they were quickly replaced.
The city says Artspace and City Market must wait until Capital City Parking completes an evaluation of the parking needs throughout downtown Raleigh, which should be done by April.
In the meantime, merchants at City Market will present a petition to the city council at its next meeting on March 6.
