CLAYTON — A woman was found dead at her home, less than one block from the Clayton police station.
Sandra Hopper Manley, 60, was found dead at her home at 304 South Barbour Road Wednesday afternoon. Police are calling Manley's death "an apparent homicide."
Neighbors said Manley was well-known and liked by others in the community. They also said that Manley would often throw newspapers on the front porch, so they would not have to walk far for them.
Kenneth Brown, Manley's neighbor, says a lot of people walk the area, and that may have had something to do with her death.
"They may have seen her out walking, knowing that she lived by herself," he says. "They may have suspected that was a way they could get in to the house to steal whatever they wanted to steal."
Clayton police and the State Bureau of Investigation are looking for a man neighbors saw roaming in the area Tuesday afternoon and Wednesday morning.
