CHAPEL HILL — Chapel Hill police have made their first arrest afterthis month's meleeon Franklin Street.
James Auman Haltom, 20, of Chapel Hill, turned himself in just before 4 p.m. Friday. He was charged with one count of felony riot. His first court date is Feb. 20 in Hillsborough.
The charge could land Haltom in jail for two years. He could also face disciplinary action by the university.
Fans flooded Franklin Street after the Tar Heels' 85-83 win over Duke in the final second of the Feb. 1 game at Cameron Indoor Stadium.
Police say the crowd was much larger than in years past and a lot more destructive. Fans set fires and overturned a car.
The arrest came after UNC public safety officers posted flyers around campus Friday, hoping to generate fresh leads in the case.
