FRANKLINTON — A teenager never returned home after a night out for some fun.
Brandon McKinney, a 16-year-old junior honor student at Franklinton High School, died Friday night when his 1998 Chevrolet Monte Carlo veered off the road and crashed into a tree. TheN.C. Highway Patrolsays McKinney was driving 100 mph on Pocomoke Road when the accident occurred.
The car went airborne, hitting the tree on the driver's side. McKinney was killed instantly. Three other students in the car survived.
McKinney was buried Monday. Friends say they remember him as a friendly, funny student who loved baseball.
