Nash Street has been torn up so the city and county can make improvements to the area.
The street is the second of five roads Wilson is renovating.
The renovations are part of an effort to breathe new life into empty storefronts, while highlighting the 1920s architecture of the courthouse.
Organizers say the end result will be worth the temporary inconvenience.
"It should be a great enhancement to the area, so please endure it for a little bit longer, and you'll be delighted with the results," says county manager Ellis Williford says.
Williford says the work will be completed in six weeks.
Business owners say they support the project and believe it will help rejuvenate the downtown area.
