— Greenville police Thursday charged a 32-year-old mother with murdering her 5-month-old daughter in January with a drug overdose.

Kendra Thompson of 171 Radford Drive in Newport was arrested after what Greenville detectives called "an extensive investigation" into the death of the infant, whose name was not disclosed.

Police and firefighters found the baby was not breathing when they were called to 1502 Cedar Lane in Greenville on Jan. 19, they said.

The baby was pronounced dead at Pitt Memorial Hospital. There were no signs of foul play at the house, police said, but detectives began an investigation. Toxicology tests deaths showed that the baby died of a lethal dose of a prescription drug called Clonidine that is used to treat high blood pressure.

What happened to innocent until proven guilty? Do anyone know the family personally?

cheekygreek, I find it hard to understand why you went off on pirate lady. Everyone reacts differently when grieving and yes, I too have had a miscarriage. What makes you think she was looking for attention?

I would gladly have taken this baby in if the mom didn't want her...

cheekygreek, Thank you, we have two kids and we all decided that with so many not haing families to love them that we would adopt one and give him/her a chance at life. I would love to help every child out there, but there are just to many. I hope you don't think I was being snippy, because I wasn't trying to be. And yes, you are right every child deserves someone to love them.

diwanicki:I got your point.I was just asking, because you seem to want a child very badly.I wish you all the luck in the world.Every child deserves someone to love them.

He's actually a nice guy. Can't say much for his taste in women, but from what I could tell, he was a loving dad. She on the other hand....well...the mugshot says it all!

OK...I see it now. I'm new to this.

oh wow PirateAlum (my daughter is an ECU fan), that's just so sad. I mean this woman was actually married?? I could see a one-night stand while the guy was drunk .. LOL .. but more than once. yuck! Ok, back to the topic, I'm hoping the first child is with the Dad or somewhere safe now.

I use to work with this woman's husband. About 10 years ago she was arrested for "allegedly" abusing her first child. "Allegedly" the baby fell off the couch and fractured it's skull. Must have been a very high couch, because a baby doesn't fracture it's skull on carpet from 3 feet. Anyway...this woman should have still been in jail for the first case and this wouldn't have happend. Crazy how our justice system would let this happen. My prayers go out to the rest of their family.
