Cumberland County Library Limits Internet Access on Children's Computers

print friendly

Surfing the net is now a little safer for children using computers atCumberland County libraries.

The locator bar has been removed from the browsers on the children's computers so anyone using those computers will be unable to type in a Web address.

Instead, users can choose from a list of about 200 children's sites selected by the library.

"We want a lot more, tens of thousands, so we have a committee in place to make a recommendation on a service we can go with to increase the number of Web sites," says Cumberland County Library System Director Jerry Thrasher.

The committee hopes to make a recommendation to the library board by October.

The goal of the process is to prevent kids from accessing adult sites on the Internet.
