Investigators evacuated the Taco Bell and Pizza Hut on Ramsey Street around 11:45 a.m., after they found two explosive devices by the dumpster behind the Taco Bell.
A witness saw some activity by the dumpster right before one of the devices detonated. The other device did not explode. Fayetteville police called inFort Braggexplosives experts to handle the second device.
"It's going to be sent to the lab to determine what agent was inside," says Fayetteville Police Sgt. Robert Rivera. Rivera says the contents were "some kind of liquid. Apparently a chemical reaction made the item explode, but we are not sure what the item may be."
The devices are described as two-liter bottles filled with some type of chemical.
There was no property damage and no injuries. One lane of 401 south was temporarily blocked off while the restaurants were closed.
