Neighbors 'Bark' about Noisy Dogs

The Miles have 50 prized, registered walkers. They are well cared for and lovable, but some neighbors are not happy with them.

The Teel family shot some video to show what they say happens everyday in their living room.

"As soon as I get home from a long day at work, I have to hear continuous barking until bedtime and sometimes after I go to bed," said Gerald Teel.

Teel says the Miles' dogs chase him on his motorcycle. The Miles' say they have got a neighborhood petition that proves the dogs are not a nuisance.

"I don't think they bother anybody. Two dogs over there bark a little bit. Their dogs bark a little bit. They've got three in the bottom, and I've heard them bark. I don't know what the problem is," said Clinton Miles.

The dog dispute between the two families is similar to neighborhood conflicts all over the Triangle. The complaining family contacted animal control officers.

Officers say the dogs are not loud enough to violate Granville County's Animal Control Ordinance. The family did the right thing, but they are still frustrated.

"We don't know what to do. We've done everything we can do as far as talking to the sheriff's department and talking to animal control. We just want to live here and be happy," said Julie Teel.

It may end up in court, but for now, the dogs and the neighbors have to live together.

Animal control officers say you should try to talk to your neighbor first if you are having problems with their pets.

The next step is to call your local police or sheriff's department. They can document the complaint then refer you to the proper next step.
