CARY — Animal rights activists say fashion and compassion can go hand in hand.

Members of "Carolina Animal Activists Together" protested today outside Burlington Coat Factory in Cary.

Burlington promised back in December not to sell coats lined with dog fur.

Protestors say every animal slaughtered for its fur goes through the same torture.

Protestors say animals who die for their fur are often gassed, electrocuted or stomped to death.

Activists say people who want to wear fur should consider the synthetic kind.
