Specialist Jack Tucker was among eight soldiers killed in July 1997 when hisUH-60 Black Hawk helicopter crashed. His name, and others from the accident, are now permanently memorialized.
"It's important that all future generations in our family can come here and see the name, and the name of all the fallen soldiers," says Bob Smith, father of a fallen soldier.
There are 14 names listed on the memorial. All of them died in the line of duty since the brigade was formed in 1987.
A jumping accident killed Specialist Steven Coe, and some of his friends are still serving at Fort Bragg.
"It's very important to us that we don't forget who has served their life for this country, whether it's p-time or war," says Sgt. Jeffrey Graybeal with the 82nd Airborne. "And that there's always some memorial for them, other than what's in our hearts, that we have to look upon."
The memorial was dedicated as part ofAll-American week, which is a time to remember the 82nd Airborne Division's past.
