Water Worries Mount for Cary, Apex

Posted Updated

CARY — The water woes in Cary and Apex may get worse before they get better.

The towns share a water plant that will double in size by 2003.

In the meantime, they need to buy more water from Raleigh.

But a document indicates the city will only sell Cary and Apex a quarter of the additional water they're requesting.

Cary Councilman Glen Lang says this leaves his town with few choices.

"It can restrict residential development, it can restrict commercial development, or it can impose restrictions on water use on Cary residents," was the way Lang sized it up.

Lang believes Cary's water woes will most likely mean water restrictions for Cary residents and residential developers.
