LAS VEGAS — A Fayetteville woman who is in Las Vegas representing North Carolina in the
Miss America Pageant
is getting ready for the big event this weekend.
Brooke McLaurin is taking in Vegas and rehearsing this week for the pageant, which is Saturday.
McLaurin and the other contestants visited the Jay Leno show last week. McLaurin got up on stage for the studio audience and danced.
"As we all know I am a singer, so I was trying to be as graceful as possible," McLaurin joked. "I walked away with a Jay Leno T-shirt, so I guess it was worth it."
The contestants arrived in Las Vegas last Saturday.
Before she was chosen as Miss North Carolina last year, McLaurin had surgery twice to remove a brain tumor.
"I really appreciate all the support and all the letters that have been sent from home," McLaurin said from Las Vegas. "I could not have done this without you."
