Hundreds Flock To Downtown Raleigh For MLK Celebration

RALEIGH, N.C. — Across the state and around the nation, the life and legacy of Martin Luther King Jr. is the center of celebrations. One of those events happened Monday in Raleigh.

Close to 1,000 people marched from the state Capitol at around 11 a.m. Many marchers held signs honoring the slain civil rights leader's message.

The march culminated at the Progress Energy Center for Performing Arts, where people were treated to some of King's speeches. A musical celebration honoring Martin Luther King Jr. will be held at 6 p.m. at Meymandi Hall.

Earlier in the day, the 25th annual Martin Luther King Interfaith Prayer Breakfast was held at the Sheraton Imperial Hotel Grand Ballroom at Research Triangle Park.
