Investigators Determine Cause Of Fire That Killed 4-Month-Old

e-mail print friendly

Investigators think a fire that killed a 4-month-old girl started near a space heater in the mobile home where she and her parents lived in Zebulon.

Authorities responded to the fire on Pleasant Hill Drive Saturday. Officials said Jacob Wertz was able to get out of the burning trailer and frantically tried to get back inside to his daughter, Alana, but was unable to do so because of the flames.

When firefighters entered the home, they found Alana's body.

The family moved into the mobile home about four months ago. Fire officials said the home did not have smoke detectors.

In addition to the loss of their daughter, the family has also lost all their possessions. Anyone wanting to help the family can call family member Dennis Venable at
