Fort Bragg Closes Section of Manchester Road

Posted Updated

FORT BRAGG — Sandhills residents are losing a popular shortcut. Saturday, May 1, a three mile section of Manchester Road on Fort Bragg will be closed.

Friday, Military Police warned motorists about the change by passing out flyers. The road, on the northern edge of Fort Bragg, is a busy cut-through between post and Hoke and Moore Counties.

The military is closing the cut-through because of safety risks surrounding some new buildings.

"The facilities will have in them ordinances and explosives that could cause harm to anybody driving by, and that is the primary reason we have to close this section of Manchester Road," says Lieut. Col. Gary Keck, Fort Bragg spokesperson.

The alternate routes are expected to add at least ten minutes to commutes.
