Fort Bragg Officials Investigating Death of 3-Year-Old on Post

Posted Updated

FORT BRAGG — Military Police at Fort Bragg are looking into the mysterious death of a soldier's child.

18th Airborne Corpsofficials say medics were called to the 3-year-old's home on post early Friday afternoon, but could not save him.

A routine investigation is underway to determine exactly how the child died. Fort Bragg officials say, right now, there is no reason to believe that any foul play was involved.

"Today, at approximately 3:00 p.m. we had a death of a dependent child on post," says LTC Gary Keck. "The incident is under investigation at this time by the Criminal Investigation Detachment. I can tell you, at this time, it is being investigated as an accident."

Calling the death of the 3-year-old a horrible tragedy, Fort Bragg officials say they are not releasing the name of the child until all family members have been notified.

It is unclear whether an autopsy will be performed. Investigators hope to release the exact cause of death sometime next week.
