Battle Brews Over Shotwell Dump

e-mail print friendly

Eastern Wake County residents in the unincorporated Shotwell community were not successful last year in stopping a yard waste landfill.

Now the owner wants to turn 17 acres of that site into a dump for construction debris.

The Shotwell community is near Knightdale.

Residents staged a protest this morning at a Board of Adjustment hearing.

Lumber, asbestos, asphalt and other construction debris could wind up on the landfill. Frank Lovick, the landfill's developer, says those items won't harm the environment.

Nearby residents contend it could taint their drinking water wells.
